The Town of Prosper’s Parks and Recreation Department is trying to help new moms get back in shape after having a baby. The program is called Stroller Strides and about 20 moms took advantage of the program on the first day, March 17.

A new offering by the Prosper Parks and Recreation Department is aimed at moms who are looking to get back in shape after having a baby, according to Julie Shivers, Recreation Services Coordinator.

“Having a baby is an incredible experience and moms are uniquely blessed to be part of that miracle,” said Julie Shrivers, the town’s recreation services coordinator. “Sometimes, though, it may take a little extra motivation to help moms get back into pre-baby shape.”

The program is being run by Leslie Cuevas of FIT4MOM.

Stroller Strides is a stroller-based fitness program designed for moms with little ones, Cuevas said.

“We want to provide a fun and welcoming environment for the moms of Prosper to come and get a great workout, bond with their kiddos, and meet other moms in the community. Stroller Strides gives moms the strength for fitness, motherhood and life.”

Each workout is 60 minutes of total body exercise. It incorporates power walking, strength training, toning and fun for the kids as well.

“Certified fitness instructors offer a variety of fun classes catered to every fitness level,” Cuevas said.

While the moms are getting whipped into shape, the kids sing songs, play games, tickle toes and give high fives, Cuevas said.

The class started last week but moms can still get involved. For more information or to sign up for the free class, visit www.mckinney.fit4mom.com.

Classes in Prosper meet on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9:30 a.m.- 10:30 a.m. at Frontier Park.
